Beginner or competitor, skier or snowboarder, the ski schools at Val Thorens offer you a great diversity of services for your ski vacations. A wide range of programmes are available: carving, free-ride, safari skiing, heliskiing, cross country or even snowshoe trekking.

Group lessons are more sociable and normally work out cheaper, however not as intense as a one-to-one tuition - it may be better investing in a few private lessons early on. The instructors will ensure that your learning experience is an enjoyable one, whether you are in a group or on your own.

It's a good idea to pre-book your ski school lessons prior to arriving in resort so you don' miss out - peak season can be manic.

ESF is the main company in Val Thorens that offers child care services. They have 3 large children’s ski areas and 2 minis clubs, offering services from 3 months, and from 3 years for skiing. You will need to get in touch with them directly to arrange suitable child care.

    Le Montana, situated at the bottom of the resort, welcomes children from 3 months.

    Le Roc, situated at the top of the resort welcomes children aged 18 months and over.

    Each mini-club includes:
    • a rest room and a playroom
    • ground floor access to the snow area
    • a dining room for lunch
    'Ad-Hoc' formulas:
    • Child care is adapted to fit in with your ski plans
    • Children learn to ski from a very young age
    Three equipped and safe ski areas enable children to learn to ski in the best conditions:
    • Indoor and outdoor activities
    • Flocon and Etoiles ski tests

    Qualified nurses and Bafa qualified helpers for non-skiing children; English and Dutch personnel.

    Tailor-made arrangements:
    Weekly arrangements on a daily or half-daily basis. Options available for meals and mealtime supervision. Flexible hours for the younger children. ESF bus stop.
    Initiation to skiing from 3 years of age:
    The "Bambis" section groups together the youngest children, with one adult for every 6/8 children. Mixing indoor activities , snow activities and real skiing tuition according to the physical and emotional needs of each child.
    Beginners from 4 yrs:
    The beginners or "Flocons" learn in the children's ski areas equipped with figurines, little bridges and a moving walkway to help them progress. There is one adult for every 8/12 children.
